A few years ago, I published an article in American Music Teacher of the same title. (http://www.mtna.org/media/77013/2014_article_of_the_year.pdf) “Feeling the Sound” has been a personal mantra since my amazing former teacher, Donna Coleman, uttered it in a lesson when I was a first-year piano major. I found the words beautiful and mysterious, even though I had no idea what she was talking about.
Now I know that she was simply inviting me to explore my music-making with wonder, joy, curiosity, passion and love. Summoning the courage to claim my own musical voice has been a life-long quest. Some days are better than others. My students often are the key: they help me to get over my self (you know who you are!).
I am grateful to do what I love, with people who make the world better, one note at a time. This blog is all about celebrating the joy of music-making, teaching and learning, and what a powerful difference art can make in our lives.
